Appearance
- Many different species. 5–75 mm in length.
- Flattened body with many segments.
- Each body segment has one pair of legs — 15–90 pairs of legs in total.
Lifecycle
- Eggs laid in batches and tended by the female until ready to hatch.
Habits
- Fast moving & predatory.
- Occasionally crawl into concealed locations indoors.
- Favours moist locations. Prone to water loss as they have no waxy cuticle.
- Usually found outdoors but may crawl indoors for safety.
- Tropical species can be highly venomous.
